My collection

Being a 3rd year fashion student it mean you will have to start working on a graduate collection to showcase at the end of the year.  In the beginning of the year we started working on our concepts, some students finding their concept easy, others (such as me) having to play around a bit before finding something that would work with me as a designer.

Luckily I am an over thinker and had a few concepts in mind when the first one didn't work out.  For me fashion is art and can be related to architecture, fine art, music, science and so much more.  Finally my concepts had a name: Da Vinci's Bird of Flight.  According to my lecturer the named sounded beautiful, almost poetic. So what is Da Vinci's Bird of Flight? It is a modern day women's wear collection, based on the sketches and designs of Da Vinci.  I mostly focused on the shapes and lines in his designs, trying to create designs equally beautiful to his sketches.  The designs is simple in form, with small design details.  I'm extremely passionate about this and can't wait to see my collection form throughout the rest of the year :)

Part of a test shoot we had to do for the range (This is NOT the final garment).
I only had half a look so that had to work.

Always expecting the worst

You know that feeling you get when you have to do something you really don't want to do? You dread it, get nightmares and constantly stress about it, that was me from the beginning of the year.  Being a 3rd year student in my final year, we were obliged to do three weeks of work based learning in the fashion industry.  I dreaded it. What if I get placed somewhere and I don't fit in?  Or I'm so bad at what I do and the people hate me. Yes, I'm an over thinker, creating scenarios of problems before there even is a problem.  Things turned out far better for me with my placement than I could ever have hoped for.  I got accepted by a local designer company called Adam&Eve.  The owners also studied fashion at CPUT, which made me feel slightly better.  From the first day I felt so welcome, fitting in with people I didn't know and I had the most amazing time. I built bonds with people, learned valuable information about starting your own business and the fashion industry and most of all I had fun!

I got the opportunity to work with patterns, getting a brief to design for them, making up a mock-up for my chosen design, sitting in with a buyers meeting with one of their clients and so much more.  The vibe in the office was that of friends doing what they love.  And for me, that was the circumstances I would want to work in one day.  Yes, this post is a bit of a ramble, but in the last three weeks I learned (again) that it is unnecessary to stress about something, unless it is life changing and in 5 years will still have that impact on your life.  The quote inserted down below sums this post up perfectly.
Things that I will remember in one year is the memories I made, useful information i learned and the skills I gained!

Go have a look at the Adam&Eve site to see a bit more about their clothing.
Thanks for reading lovelies!x

First post!

Hi! Hello! Oh wow, never in my life would I have thought that I would start writing a blog.  I can hardly finish my history essay's in time and those are crucial!  I would like to introduce myself.  My name is Bianca and I'm a 20 year old fashion student from Cape Town, South Africa.  I still live with my parents and brother (unfortunately). I would LOVE to have my own place, but all good things come with time!  I absolutely love animals and we have a slight zoo vibe going on at the moment.  I recently got some fish and I'm already worrying about their well-being.  I don't think I'm meant to look after fish. With that we have 3 dachshunds, one of which is my boyfriend's, a Labrador, two kitty cats and a bird.  See? Total zoo... For the fashion part, I always wanted to study fashion and I love every moment of it, even when I'm swearing and feel like throwing my work out of the window! I promise it sounds worse than it actually is ;) I'm currently busy with my 3rd year and working on my final collection.  I have no idea what I want to do next year when I'm done with my studies.  I have a few ideas of what I would like to do (styling, visual merchandising, buyer), but we'll just have to wait and see what the future holds! Except for the fashion part I love to read books and am a total Harry Potter nerd.  I would love to travel someday, especially to London and I like music, photography, browsing on blogs and shopping!

I will include some photo just for the fun!

Happy reading! :) x
